I just picked up a rock island 1911 tactical as a fun gun. Anyways i want to get some aftermarket grips i'd like to get some nice dark hardwood grips and a pair of hogue wraparounds but im not sure which models i need due to the extended ambi safety. Any suggestions or links would be appreciated thank you

any of them that have the RH grip relieved for an ambi safety should work fine. more and more grips for the 1911 platform are made with the relief on the RH grip, so people have the option of using an ambi safety if they choose to.

Standard Hogue grips and a razor knife for some fitting. Worked okay for me.

If who I think made them, I probably wouldn't expect to see him around here again. He lost a few friends.

The type of safety the RIAs has will have a lot to do with how you set up grips or it. The two I've had didn't have the tab that went behind the grip panel And I had to reshape the top of one grip to alklow for the full travel of the safety lever. So I wouild look at the grips on it now and htat will help you in your search. Being some materials are better to work with than others it might be big factor in what you wend up with.At any rate to cut them to fit any of the two types of ambi safeties is pretty easy work and one of the few times I'll use a dremel near a firearm. It's pretty easy to reshape the top or make the cutout on the back depending what you need.

Any 19011 grip wioll work as far as the holes lining up though....

I try not to post photos too regularly. Admins frown on that. I'll add some new ones to bump the thread.

    BassPro grips

Check out the Pachmyer grips at BassPro. They have a set with finger grooves and hardwood trim around the rubber portion. They are gorgeous and the price is good too. 29.95. I bought a set for my RIA 1911 and they fit and look great!

Those are nice grips & have a great feel ---
I use the inserts because I have several different grips for my 1911's--
Changing them out now & then is like having a new gun :D
