Carbine/rifle ???

Hi Everyone,

This may sound like a foolish question to some of you, however I would really like to know the answer or get a reasonable explaination.

I what to know what the difference is between a carbine and a rifle.
I am interested in getting the new Bushmaster .450. It comes in a rifle version and a carbine version as well. The only difference that I can see is the rifle has a 2" longer barrel and has slightly different styling than the carbine.

Can You guys help me out here? Thanks
