hello out there!!! ,, my name in john ,, and im fairly new into fire arms ...i live in a small town out in california desert .. its one stoplight...and a gas station kind O place ,,, and about ,,9 /10 thousand people ,,, kind of out in the sticks .. so we figured ,, we should at least have a weapon or two around the house for personal procection /// and peace O mind ... dont know that much about guns ,,,, but your site seems pretty cool so im looking foreward to to learning some thing about what seems to be a really fun hobby thanks JB

Welcome!! Your town must not be "Zzyzx", don't think it could have that many people! Your choices of guns are dependent on what ages, etc. you have in your family....a good shotgun is a fine home defense weapon, but potential users who are new to guns must become accustomed to such a brute-force weapon. Actually, whatever you choose, the most important thing is to get every potential user comfortable with the presence of guns, and comfortable using them. Practice shooting a LOT.

Have kids, their safety is paramount. Kids are drawn to guns like magnets to steel. Take a gun safety and use course if it's available nearby.

That old Mojave! It's wonderful as long as those Santa Ana winds don't get real riled!
