My wife is out of town so I decided to go to take the CCW class on Thursday nite. (The arm injury delayed me earlier in the year)

Pretty interesting discussion regarding the legalities of carrying. No shooting is required in Iowa, but the instructor did have a laser training gun that was kind of fun to play with. After seeing how one of the guys in the class handled the training gun, I kind of wish Iowa would require a test of shooting proficiency. Scar-ry...

For anyone in eastern Iowa looking to take the class, I'd recommend the class I attended... http://www.gunsafetygroup.com/

So I went down the the Sheriff's office Friday morning and they processed my permit while I waited. Probably took all of 15 minutes. All told, the Iowa process from training to card in hand took probably 4 hours.

That's the best I ever heard of, time wise.

It took four weeks, here in Florida, even

going to the county seat, and processing the

application directly through their computerized system.

I'm guessing the background check down here was either more thorough,

or done before the permit is issued, rather than as a follow-up.

Congratulations, be safe, and carry often.

Congrats Scott. That was an awesome turnaround for your license.
I thought it was quick when I got my AZ CCW. By mail, total of 6 days.
    Be safe.

    Congratulations

ScottA: Sir, belated congratulations. NC has a maximum 90 waiting period, mine was 87 day wait. 6-7years ago, renewal was 2 month wait.

    Class $150.00
    Application $90.00
this comes out to be $48.00 per year or $4.00 per month
    {all for peace of mind}

    Renewal $75.00
this becomes $15.00 per year or $1.25 per month

The wally world walk is when you go in to the store to buy ammo all the time it gets really fun when your armed and if your bending over looking at the ammo and your shirt rides up enough and a sales associate see's you carrying then you ask for ammo they get all nervous and sweaty. Or when you say "i would like a 100 box of winchester 40.s&w fmj or jhp please. and they give you this kind of glazed look turn around a second and tell you they dont sell them while your sitting there looking right at the box. Have fun welcome to the club and remember when dealing with the walmart employee's just breath and smile.

P.s. my wife works at walmart in the deli and knows more about ammo then those yahoo's back in sporting goods

Oh I've seen it mentioned a couple of times that most people when they first get their CCW, holster, and permit they go tour Wally World as their first time 'packing' in public.

On a related note, I wonder if the 82-y.o. former deputy sheriff noticed I had my S&W .38 in my front pocket while walking around his property with him Saturday? ;)

No background check? I'd be worried about who can get a permit there if there is no thorough background check.

Forgive me if that point was addressed in the thread, I did not read every post.
