looking at getting a glock 17 somewhere in the near future. Thinking about getting into compeititon shooting ex) gssf or idpa. Which mag capacity g17do you think would be better to get for this reason, the 17rd or 10rd? Thanks for the advice.

Stick with the 17 rd mags. Most shootin' games only restrict the number
of rounds you load into the magazine, not the actual capacity. I know
for sure that GSSF and USPSA Production division don't care--as long as
    you only load 10.

The regular 17 rd mags are more available, EASY to load to 10. The 10
rd mags can be hard to get 10 into, and hard to seat in the gun.

Ok thanks thats what I figured. Now ive only seen the glock 17 with 17 rd mag. How does the 10 mag glock look In comparison. Is the height shorter?

The length is the same, otherwise, it wouldn't fit. The only time magazine size is a difference is whether you have a full size, compact or subcompact.

Same external dimensions. Single row of witness holes on the back.
The follower and spring are different. Basically, the 10 rd magazine
is a single stack magazine in a double stack size housing.
