Picked up an old hawthorn warrior bolt action gun, and the front sight post is kind of broke. Its there, but the top of the front 'spike' (for lack of a better term) is broke off and it shoots really, really high because of the lower front post.

What can I do to fix this? I was thinking about a small weld on the top and dremel shaping it back but I dont think that would look good or be too precise.

Is there a good weld on front sight to get? It needs to be reblued or cerakoted pretty bad anyways. Or something that would clamp on if I got the barrel diameter?

    Thanks

If it is a model 150B then it was mfg by Mossberg model 183B What is the model number? You might be able to get a new front sight at Numrich.

It's a Mossberg 340, sight available at Numrich. My catalog is a #33 shows the price to be $4.20 for a new sight.

I think it might be a Mossberg 146 (if tube fed). If you knew what height the front sight was originally you could get one from Brownells(or your local gun shop).

Is the front sight just dovetailed in to the barrel?
If so then it is very easy to get a new sight. Take it to the range and bring some tape(like black electrical tape). Use the tape to to increase the existing front sight height. Trial and error until you get the correct height. Measure the total height of the sight(bottom of sight to top of tape). Order a new front sight that height from Midwayusa or Brownells or local gun shop.

Mongo- the 340 is a box magazine and ArrizX's is a tube magazine. those cross reference's are not always correct. The sight may be the same though.

There are variations of the 340 model (a letter added to the model number). My Numrich book shows this basic rifle was tube fed, clip fed as well as a version in 22WMR
