I just got bit by the firearms bug about 3 years ago. Now I'm beginning my exploration into the world of knives. I'm not yet informed enough to develop any kind of checklist of "must have" blades, so I'll have to sit that portion of my own thread out. But I am interested in some informed opinions from this board. It can be specific brands/models, or just types of knives. Interested in everything from camping/survival/hunting to fighting knives to EDC and even multi-tool types...whatever you place a premium on along your own journey, and why.

    So far I've got:

    Spyderco Endura4 (my EDC)
Other carry folders: Spyd Resilience, Byrd Cara Cara & Meadowlark
Cold Steel machete, pretty cheap but likely sufficient
Ka-Bar Fighting/Utility USMC type, combo edge (8" blade)

Old Timer pocket knife for dress up.
    Leatherman for everyday use.
Gerber Pixie traveled in the top of my jump boot for years.
Gerber Mk1 for serious social use.

But I DO have an Othello Rot Punkt thrower I was given as a birthday present some time back....

A gerber pixie? All metal paring knife. I used to cruise the thrift stores for old knives. I got alot of good old knives for fifty cents or a dollar. Village blacksmiths, old file, and the whole set (several sets) of the gerber knives that the pixie is the paring knife to. I really like the retro look of them. You must have had a good sheath. That is a stiff little knive that can be sharpened to a razor edge. That's just nasty!

Those are must-haves. Now you're down to bigger and smaller blades. I have a ton of folders, all of which are good. Boker and S&W autos are good. CRKT makes plenty of fine blades. My EDC is a CRKT Natural.

Gerber's hatchet/knife combo is pretty good. Multiple uses in a small package and great in a bug-out bag.

Larger blades arguably border on goofy, but I really do like Cold Steel's gladius and Cas Hanwei's tactical wakizashi. Please use caution with larger blades; it's as easy to hurt yourself as it is to hurt an opponent with something like these if you don't know what you're doing.

i keep several M7 us military surplus bayonets around. they are superb multi tasking utility tools and if one breaks cheap to replace. they hold a decent not great edge for opening boxes, bags, packing material and general prybar usage.

Downsouth- before the Pixie had that shiny slick metal handle, they made a version with a green/gray textured handle, that came with a leather sheath. Sheath and blade slide right down the inside top of my left boot. Basically a 4 inch razor blade.

I have a number of cheap high value type blades. I love my Kershaw Chill combo blade and only paid like 13 bucks for it. Super sharp and a great size for edc. If I lose it I am out way less than my buddy who "misplaced" his Benchmade... Granted his could do more than mine... I also have the Byrd Cara Cara 2, SOG FlashII, CRKT Rave (a nice social blade), and a host of others. My favorite to carry is the SOG Flash II but it gets a lot of worried attention...
