Finally went on my first whitetail hunt and bagged my first deer this morning. Used a Ruger American in 270 with a Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 ImageUploadedByFirearms Talk1388177317.245596.jpg ImageUploadedByFirearms Talk1388177333.426706.jpg
Shot was about 80 yards with the sun in my face. He was angled a little away from me so unfortunately I gut shot him. But he's all field dressed now. So excited!

    Gooooood eats there okieboy!

Pan fry butt steaks with a little salt, pepper and garlic powder in plenty of butter, until just mediumish. Pour the pan butter over mashed potatoes, enjoy!

Oh, and congrats on the first of many good venison meals over the years. The only thing better than the meals are the memories!

Nonsense I say. Season to taste, I prefer Tony Chachere's Cajun seasoning, then coat in flour and fry in a 1/4 inch or so of oil. Use the drippings to make gravy to ladle over your country fried deer steak and mashed 'taters. Rice is also a good side to ladle the gravy over.

    Congrats on the first deer.

Scored another one last night right as the sun went down. ImageUploadedByFirearms Talk1388236743.212013.jpg I was watching a buck and two does about three hundred yards away. They had started working their way towards me so I had my rifle up ready to take the shot the moment they got close enough when suddenly 6 does spring out about thirty yards to my right and start grazing. The buck started moving off at that point so I settled for the largest doe I saw. Turns out it was another button buck. I must have a grudge. :p

Idk if I'd call it managed. It's farmland that the farmer leases out to my friends during seasons. So my friends are the ones who mainly set everything up and take care of it. I got started because I came home from work and my mom said "I want venison. You're going. Hunting with the Akins
