After cleaning my bolt-action I usually pull the trigger and ease the firing pin foward by turning the bolt. Is this good to do or does it make a difference?

It certainly does no harm and can be considered sound practice. GD

People say it is bad to dry fire any gun. But I spent hours dry firing my m-16 in basic and nothing was harmed doing that.

But no that is the way I do it when I close the bolt. I do not want to leave the firing pin in teh cocked position this might cause the spring to weaken over time.
