I'm pretty much a novice gunsmither. Would like to do some filing and smoothing at sharp corners on a couple of handguns. However, I don't want to damage the finish (one is black parkerized, one is nickell). Is there any product(s) that will touch-up areas like this?

You can check the brownell's catalog on line, but IMHO, NO. Nickel is actually nickel plating over COPPER plating. Parkerizing is a phosphate finish. While there are cold blues that at best provide a pale imitation of a good hot blue, (i use them to touch up scratches in bluing) do not know of a "cold nickel" or cold parkizing" product that is even close to original.

    Sorry-

You will need to completely re-finish. There are no acceptable ways to touch-up those finishes.

These guys are right-once the original finish is "broke", you'll have to refinish. Best thing is to leave them alone unless you're prepared to pay a smith to redo them.
