I'm not familar with that specific weapon but I have a SAR-1 and love it, I think the Romanian triggers are the best stock triggers. Go for it, you might like it :D

That looks like a pretty good deal to me...though i am not really familiar with romanian aks. From what i heard they are suppose to be pretty good performers.

Can anyone shed some light on this specific model...experiences, etc....

    Yeah!

    Another happy customer.

I had the same problem when I started coming around these forums regularly. I had a Glock and was very happy with it, like all the other Glocks I'd owned before, but before long, after posting in these forums, I contracted H19N11 (.45 fever).

Before long I had a Colt Commander .45 stainless and then I put some of Sarge's grips on it.

How he's advertising in my magazine, Stalkingbear and several other members of the forum are writing for me and well, it's in my blood.

I love it. Good wholesome peer pressure at its finest. :)

That price on that AK is a great deal I do believe! Heck I didn't pay that for my Romanian and I was working in a gun shop when I BOUGHT IT!

So I'd say jump on that and ride.

    Junho,

Yes, that is a good deal. Or, if you want something a little bit better, without too much more money, go with :

AIM Lancaster Arms NDS-2 "Rough Rider" 5.45x39 Rifle Lancaster Arms NDS-2 "Rough Rider" 5.45x39 Rifle

The only reason I said better, is that the WASR was mostly put together by Century Arms (sometimes questionable QA/QC), where as Lancaster normally puts out a pretty nice gun.

A buddy has one (same model, i bleve) and loves it. I've shot it and was happy with it. His trigger was factory-swapped for a tapco that feels fine. It is my understanding that these start life much as you receive them, other than the magazine well being machined to accept double-stack mags rather than single-stack. His likes the tapco magazines & some clear ones (nice). It hasn't jammed yet on the wolf ammo. The only problem he had was in ordering the wrong tapco collapsable buttstock (he thought the receiver was considered "milled", it isn't). The wood was kinda soft once it was seperated from the rifle.

IIRC, he paid about $525 at a gun show with a couple of mags & a sling.

I wasn't there at the time, but when he ordered the correct one (stamped receiver was the info, i bleve) he just bolted it on in a few minutes on from what he said. When he ordered the wrong kind (milled receiver was his mistake in info) I wish i had been there to laugh; he said he filed on that thing for an hour to make it fit. FWIW, as a non-midget the Tapco collapsible/extendable butt stock is MUCH more comfortable to me. He also got a "saw" pistol grip to replace the one that came on it & it is a bit more comfortable, IMO.

My advice, LOTS of plastic mags & LOTS of ammo; you will not want to stop to reload (handguard will get quite warm).

Glad to see the noboma sale is over! That price is back down to pre-November 2008 craziness.

That Romey is the model I have and I love it!

My ugly duckling as it came out of the box. Mine came with the stock but a replacement for the wood is a DIY project requiring only $.

There is any amount of bling you can find to fix her up!

Here she is as an inside-the-wire zombie slayer.

    Or as a scout.

Your choice is a good start, it has the optics rail mount.

Lose the poly-mags, they are worthless and find some eastern block steel mags and you will be good to go.

If you get this Romey, PM me before you jump on the accessory wagon. I can save you a ton of $ with all the shopping I've done and provide you feedback on the parts I've purchased and am happy.

Also there are some non-aesthetic improvements you should make to the Romey before the bling.

Cane, post that up please (especially the non-aestheticaly stuff); my buddy will also be interested & is forum-impaired. He had the opposite experience with metal mags; the plastic ones work better for his. I wonder if they milled out too much when they converted his from singlestack to doublestack???

Most Romanians you come across will be of CAI build, despite not being the top of the line as far as quality control, fitting, etc. . . It's hard to totally screw up an AK, especially if that's your gig. CAI's are sometimes a little rough, scratches, loose mag fit, tough to sight, etc., but nothing that can't be fixed pretty easily. These are good guns.

I've personally been scoping out the Lancaster's for my next AK, especially because they now offer "stainless steel match grade barrels" on any rifle, for only $22 extra. Now I can't tell you how much of a difference this would make regarding accuracy. . . I just don't know  I've read mostly good, few (but existent, mostly cosmetic) bad reviews and think they would definitely be a big step up from a CAI or other like build. I've only shot one Lancaster, its been a while, but I do remember the feel (good) and they will deliver 10"-12" groups off a knee, prone, sandbag, etc. But, this was a 7.62, I believe, so the '74 may deliver more?

Ahhhhhhhh. . . . . C'mon man! ! ! Don't spend time to scrounge it up! ! ! Just borrow $$$ or rack up a credit card. ;) There are plenty of Romy's and other origins available right now, just get a decent one and you can always build on it. AK's have a charm about them. . . they just feel good. :)

That is a great deal on a great AK, I work in a gun store and even with my employee discount, I still had to give $485 for my romy.
