I will always love my 303 british (inherited from my Grandfather) but it's hard to beat my 308 norma mag for my big game hunting. Loved plinking on the farm with my Cooey 22's growing up and still use them for birds.
M1 garand and 1903 Springfield, if it wasn't for these two rifles we would all probably be goose stepping today!!! and who couldn't love the work horse of America the 30-06 one of the finest rounds ever developed!!!
I must say, I have a remington 76 pump (2 generations older - 76, 760, 7600
and I second that for favorite hunter.
I like my Savage 99 in 300 savage. Its taken lots o tasty vittles, but having 4 rounds + 1 for fast shooting, nothing beats my 76 Rem in .30-06
