Hi guys and gals, what's your favorite AK variant?

As for me I like them all but some more than others.
Saigas are at the top of my list, I also like the Hungarian models.
And of course the PSL is near and dear to my heart.

    So what's your favorite?

Is the Polish a Tantal or the milled model.

    Stamped, pre-Tantal. I would like a Tantal in 5.56

I've never had an AK that did not work, so don't really have a strong opinion.

Maadi, Norinco, Hungarian SA85, Saiga (non-converted), Polytech, they all work. But I prefer my box stock Saiga to all of them.

I wouldn't mind having a Dragunov one day, but only because they look awesome, wouldn't expect it to be too accurate.

Drags are wicked looking! I have the PSL and have read that they are about the same accuracy wise. Of course my PSL is fairly accurate with my handload, about 1.25 inches at 100 yards for a five shot group.

How much would a Dragunov set me back and is it possible to get say...1/2 MOA with them?

A Drag would probably run upwards of 10K providing you could find one. I think only 1,000 were imported here. They were something like 7500 a couple years ago. The Tigre, which is the civilian model, is much cheaper. I think they're about 2K or so.

I wouldn't think .5 MOA would be possible with one. The rimmed cartridge and loose tolerances of the rifle would make it VERY difficult at best, of course YMMV as always.

I'f I'm spending 10K on a rifle, it would be a 98 Bravo with some ridiculous scope on it and and 3500.00 worth of factory ammo for it. I didn't realize they Dragunovs are so expensive. I saw one at the range last month and the guy was printing terrible groups with it, and it flung brass out twenty yards in every different direction. The carrier timing was so inconsistent from round to round. Very strange, but very cool looking none the less. 10K cool looking.....nah

A .308 Saiga would deliver better accuracy and could be converted into a Saiganov for a fraction of the cost of the Drag.

i read recently in american rifleman that the russians wanted to hit a person where as the americans want head shots. but its easy to use and fix and always fires.. but we all knew that. i would just be happy to shoot one for now.

Ain't nothing wrong that my friend!

I've seen so many of them modified that it's kinda nice to see a clean original like this.
