Got the new issue of American rifleman today from my pops house. Has this article regarding 1911's and explosive bonding for the frames. Was wondering if anyone else had seen and read about this and what your thoughts were?
Kinda just want to through it around and hear some responses

Its not that new. Just new for making a 1911.

Aluminum has been used in pistol frames for a while as has polymers. Neither has any real issue with excessive wear in properly engineered designs.

I dont see any real benefit of a super pricey metal alloy when cheaper aluminum and polymer does the same thing.

Yeah sounded a little ridiculous for the process being used to make firearm frames. Pretty interesting read though
