I believe Knockout is referring to IDPA Enhanced Service Pistol Division (ESP). The only ESP gun I have seen was a Browning Hi Power.

9mm 1911

If you want to shoot ESP division in IDPA matches I have found the best way to go is a 1911 model in 9mm. Springfield has a target model that is a good choice, and I'm sure the Kimber is also. You can use all the same leather that you use for a 45 cal. 1911 since the two different guns have the same diminsions. That makes it easy for you to shoot two different classes (CDP and ESP) at the same match, all you have to do is change guns and magazines.

Some say the 1911 is, but Glock's and XD's are getting into the mix as well.

I'm going to try my Glock 35 next year, as well as my BHP.
