I saw some comments on a couple of threads about the phoney "CCW" badges that are designed to look like police badges.
My personal opinion is that no one would get one of those unless he/she/it wants to pretend to be a police officer.
I saw an old guy on a city bus one day who became irritated with a young punk whose momma never taught him how to act in public. The old guy flashed his "I'm a proud ccw carrying phoney cop" badge and told the punk to sit down and shut up. The old guy's hands were trembling like crazy, because he apparently anticipated that the punk would know it was fake. He did know it was fake. The BG ridiculed the old guy, taunted him, until the bus driver stopped the bus and made the BG get off.
Doing that crap can end up with the guy who flashes the badge being in more trouble than the person he "flashes".

I'm pretending to be a CEO, they get paid a lot more than a COP.

i see some idiot with one, trying to play cop and getting himself into a big heap of problems one day. seriously, these same people probably shouldn't own a gun in the first place, or a car, or operate any type of power equipment!

I think there are more idiots that shouldn't drive compared to idiot gun owners!!!. Haha. Where can I get this so called badge?. I've never heard of this. For one why would you even flash it, isn't that why we "conceal" our weapons?

Fathead, i agree that there are probably way more idiots who drive who need to get a bicycle or a good pair of walking shoes.

use to see them in the backs of different magazines in the advertisements for sale. cheesy ads! i thought the whole idea of CC was being concealed! so why would a person even need a badge? seems like one of those oxymorons!

Having a CCW does not make you a LEO- it is to enable you to defend yourself. Purpose of a badge is to identify yourself as a person of authority- which a CCW is NOT.

Now, if it says "(insert city) police department" then yeah, that's impersonating.

if i am not mistaken, if by giving the impression or influencing the thought and allowing another person to believe that you are a LEO, it could be thought as also impersonating a LEO even if you never stated you were. different states may have different definitions of what is impersonating a LEO are though.

i agree with C3, just as owning a fire extinguisher doesn't make you a firefighter either. it is no diifferent than owning that fire extnguisher, just being prepared for in case ther was a fire.

my problem with it this, having a CC permit is suppose to be about CC, and if you have some silly badge that states you have a CC gun, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of carrying concealed?

I know in Illinois it would be illegal to use that badge in the manner stated in the OP.

Whateva. Stolen valor act got shot down. Who REALLY knows what constitutes impersonation anymore? It's legal to impersonate military, so who cares if you impersonate a cop?

I don't like the idea of ccw or private investigator badges, I think they're stupid and more likely than not to get someone shot.

But... I still say if the badge says plain and clear, in the big black block letters I've seen them with in magazines... "CCW permit holder"....
and nothing about being a cop...
If I were stupid enough to want one of those overpriced pieces of tin, that's a fight I would argue out.

I don't like the idea of ccw or private investigator badges, I think they're stupid and more likely than not to get someone shot.

But... I still say if the badge says plain and clear, in the big black block letters I've seen them with in magazines... "CCW permit holder"....
and nothing about being a cop...
If I were stupid enough to want one of those overpriced pieces of tin, that's a fight I would argue out.

Very well. I would still argue the point if it said very clearly on the idiot badge that it was a CCW doohickey and I ended up in court over it. But I don't have one, nor do I want one. I think they cost like 50 bucks and considering a Louisiana permit is going to cost me around $200 at least... I'm a cheap ***...

in a state that has OC, if i saw you carrying no i wouldn't assume that. but in a state with CC only and i saw you OC, i could make the assumption you were LE. i think simply put as AIKIJUTSU has said intent to lead someone to believe that you are a LEO is impersonating one. i am sure that different states may have different definitions and classing it as whether a felony or misdemeanor.
