Advice? Buy lots of ammo and magazines then go out and shoot it. Don't put a lot of junk on it. Don't do labor intensive upgrades, just what you need like irons and an RDS. Keep a cheap gun cheap, don't double the price with upgrades, you'll never get that money back if you try to sell it later.

I've read reviews on the gun an they are a bit mixed views on it. I haven't had a chance to take it out does it not handle well?

I have a DPMS Panther carbine, it handles fine for what I use it for. I take it to the range on occasion and put holes in the splattering targets.

Your DPMS will work fine for plinking, range, coyotes, even hog hunting.

When I get home from work, I'll post you links to some fun upgrades. Quad rail, flip up sights, vertical front grip, etc. All of them at budget prices. And all products that I've personally used so I can attest to their quality

What I did to my DPMS was install a Vltor E-Mod Stock and a Ergo Grip from Falcon Industries. It already had a free float forend from the factory, so I left it because there was nothing to "improve". On my other AR-15's I did much the same but included a Midwest Industries 2 piece, 4 rail forend. I generally buy everything from Man Venture Outpost because they have the best prices on everything except the Ergo Grips. Those I get from Midway.

As far as anything internal I wouldn't bother making any changes. I always keep a spare bolt carrier group, firing pin, extractor, etc., in my range bag when I shoot any AR-15 at the range. I've yet to have to go into it and replace anything.

Id advise you to make sure you have sights, plenty of ammo and go shoot it. A lot. Have fun with it.
Shoot it prone, benched, kneeling, freehand, with then without a sling, make like your wedding night.

After shooting think about your likes and dislikes. Then see if you can make some upgrades.

I'm mean seriously how are you gonna upgrade it without having a baseline for improvment. Don't dump ur money into so early. Most upgrades are just minor changes, not many are gamechanger.

    Quad Rail: http://www.sportsmans-depot.com/pro...Black-Picatinny-Rail-AR-Rifles-GMG%2dQR1.html

Vertical front grip/bipod: http://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Milsim-Airsoft-Paintball-Weaver/dp/B000GTAO6K It says it's for airsoft etc but i have one and it's held up to several thousand rounds of .223 so far with no problems. I've had 2 friends also buy them now based on mine.

    Main Grip: http://www.sportsmans-depot.com/products/ProMag-Grip-Black-AR-Rifles-PM155.html

    Flip up rear sight: http://www.amazon.com/Spec-AR-15-Rear-Flip-up-Sight/dp/B004NKRZEC

    Flip up front sight: http://www.amazon.com/3Skull-Flip-up-Tactical-Front-Sight/dp/B005OKXJOK

    Magpul pmags with window: http://www.sportsmans-depot.com/pro...-Rem-556NATO-30Rd-Black-HK-G36-MAG234BLK.html

    Slide fire stock: http://www.mackspw.com/Item--i-SFSS...1120G&utem_source=googlebase&utm_medium=feed&

    Holographic sight red: http://compare.ebay.com/like/310358870119?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y

    Holographic sight green: http://ineedmoregear.com/bsa-optics...st-for-brightness-multiple-reticles-pmrgs-gp/

    Single point sling mount: http://www.fedtacticaldirect.com/ProMag-Ambidex-DualLoop-Sling-Attach-Plt-PM140A_p_30335.html

    Single point sling: http://compare.ebay.com/like/350553558849?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y

    Oversized charging handle latch: http://www.amazon.com/All-Steel-Oversized-Tactical-Latch/dp/B004690CT0

This will get you started. I'm not saying you have to buy it all, but just giving you some options/ideas. Good luck and let us know what you decide to go with. Note: if you get a slide fire stock and want a single point sling, buy the mount from slide fire. If not, you will have to dremel recesses into the stock to allow it to work with the other mount.

ryguy, question. What I've read on the BSA red dot is, after about 25 yards outdoors, it gets washed out. Has that been your experience? That, and supposedly some really bad instructions.

Well my experience has been shooting out to around 100yds and no further. I know the sight has different brightness settings on the dial but I've never used them. I turn the knob backwards and go straight to the brightest setting. Its just how I've always done it. I have never noticed it to be difficult to see other than when the battery is low. Making sure it's turned off before storing the gun in the safe for a while is a HUGE help towards maintaining battery life. Trust me! Anyhow, I've never had any problem seeing the reticle in any light so I would have to disagree with what you've read. Bad instructions? Who reads those anyway? Windage and elevation are clearly marked on the unit and installation is pretty easy to figure out. It's been a long time since I've changed the battery but I seem to remember it being pretty simple. If you can operate an AR, you won't have any problem figuring out this sight.

I know there are several better quality choices out there and that this sight cannot compare to them. For the price, I would never expect it to. However, I use my AR for entertainment purposes only. It doesn't go to work with me, it doesn't defend my home, and my life will never depend on it or this optic. Even so, it has never failed me. And if it did, it is set up co-witness with my irons so it still wouldn't matter. It is what it is and honestly, it works just fine for me!

    Hope that helps!

That it does. I wasn't expecting to compare it to an EoTech or Aimpoint. I merely wanted your take. I've seen reviews that rave and rant on crap, and bemoan and bash decent items. Price is king, and if someone thinks they got their moneys worth or a bargain, then it's a good investment.
Just wanted to get the opinion of someone who actually had one in his hand.

I let grammatical errors go because, if we corrected all the errors on here? We'd never get to discuss AR's!!

I absolutely think I got my moneys worth. And a whole lot more! Hell, for this price I wouldn't even expect it to hold zero. But it does. And if it'll hold zero with a slide fire stock, then I'm pretty sure it's not gonna move unless it's hit by a truck. You can trust and believe I've had it in my hand, and although I've never used an eotech or an aimpoint or any other expensive holographic sight, I can admit that for my uses I don't need to. I'm not sure where you live, but if you're close enough and want to come out, you're welcome to shoot mine and see how you like it. Then you can make your own decision based on what you're looking for.

Just saw you're in GA.... Well, if you're ever up this way on vacation or whatever, we can make a day at the range.
