BLC2, H335 and A2230 are all spherical. BLC2 is very similar to your 748. H335 and A2230 are fairly close to each other in burn rate. IMR4895 and IMR4064 are both tubular powders. The granules of 4895 are shorter and drop through a powder measure more smoothly than 4064. Overall though, I have found 4064 to be a more reliable producer of accuracy.

For me, the ball powders tend to have a more pronounced muzzle blast than stick powders.

42.0 Grains of Varget with bullets in the 150 to 168 grain range works very well in .308 semi autos. I've used these loads in both of my Springfield M1-A's, as well as my DPMS AP-4 Carbine. All cycle reliably, are very accurate, and burn clean.

:D:D Interesting!:D:D 4064 worked better for me (more accurate) in slightly larger cases, but in my 308s, 4895 is more accurate.:confused:

I guess it just shows that each rifle is an individual unto itself!:p

I think I'm going to try blc2 with nosler 168 silver tips in the 308 carbine.

That should be a good load.

But if you're looking for inexpensive practice ammo, load up with Remington or Winchester 147 GR. M-80 ball. About half the price of those Noslers.
