If you're talking about hornady's TAP ammo, i dont know anyone who shoots it. It's not very available in my area.

    Edited-----

Very sorry, I looked up Double Tap on the web and I found it at Midway. I've never seen a box of these before.

no i use 230 grn hollowpoints right now its federal hydrashoks. come the first of the year it will be whatever defensive hollowpoint in 230 grn 45 acp is available on the shelf. last year i had speer gold dots. my colts run anything without issue.

bullet expansion is just a bonus if it occurs

what part was confusing?? the part about my no real brand pref. or my not really caring about hollow point expansion?? the only reason i dont use my own reloads for self defense is liberal lawyers if i have to use it on a bad guy.

sorry if im confusing. im typing one handed while laying on the couch watching pawn stars. was trying to be concise ut im willing to expand on any point.

It's not your fault I'm easily confused. I should have thought about it more.

I couldn't get the connection you were making with Double Tap brand ammo Longhair was asking about.

    No worries.

Good stuff, kinda spendy though. I've got a couple boxes sitting around. They use a lot of Speer/Gold Dot components and load 'em hot.

Like Buffalo Bore, fringe calibers (especially 10mm) and exotic loads are their specialties. I have some friends who use 10mm Glocks as hunting sidearms when bow hunting. DoubleTap is what they fill them with. If you've got a 10mm, I'd definitely use one of these two companies for any kind of defense load. But for more mainstream calibers/applications you'll gain little by choosing DoubleTap over Rangers, Gold Dots, etc.

I guess the pricing really isn't too bad...$40+ or so per box of 50...not terrible for specialty/defense loads. They have some pretty cool 10mm loads with multiple projectiles and such. If this is for 10mm, also give Buffalo Bore a look.

I still believe the fact that people think you will be in deep kimshee if you use reloads in a self defense situation is an urban legend, with no basis in reality. Does anybody here know of ANYBODY successfully prosecuted for doing so?
