What does the alpha characters preceding the numbers of the serial number mean - if anything. On my MKll 90 series those characters are - DFO - (Delta, Frank Oscar - not Delta, Frank, zero).

Different manufacturers use different methods, but these are standard.
The alpha characters could desiginate the model number (Even your initials as part of the serial number would desiginate the "model" number).
