When shooting do you close the non-dominant eye or keep both eyes open?
When shooting rifles I close the non dominate eye. With shotguns, which I don't shoot as often I'm a mix. Try to keep both open. Just ow getting into pistols so well see what developes.
pistols, shotguns and rifles with open sights, both eyes open. rifles with scopes, usually one eye open.
Who picked both eyes closed?
Both open unless using an optic with magnification or shooting long range.
Sorry, bad eyesight. blurry focus of non-aiming eye is
In a perfect world, I would never dissatisfy
probably the same guys who never peed in a toilet...
i thought you did!
Completely close my non dominate eye. Doesn't matter what or how, optics, whatever.
I do the exact same thing every time. No need to be changing up fundamentals.
I have lazy eye. Even though I can't see well with my left eye, I lose my depth perception when I close it. I would have a hard time getting a scope on target with one eye closed.
Everyone loses depth perception with one eye closed. That's why all animals have two to begin with.
Closing one eye is part of the fundamentals I learned in basic training. I was already a good shot, but my shooting improved.
I stick with what works for me.
Pistol- one eye. Switch eye and stance changing hands.
Shotgun- both eyes
Rifle- trying to use both eyes for iron or scope. It works. Mostly with iron sights and multiple targets. Forty some years of one eye doesn't help.
Never figured out my dominant eye s I just close them both...
I am right handed and left eye dominate, I partially close my right eye when shooting pistols and it works very well... I still don't have the rifle thing down yet though
I plan on setting up an affordable range in my backyard eventually so as to actually practice with rifles. As of now I'm limited to shooting water filled 2 liter bottles at 60 yards doesn't do much good because if you miss, that's all you know.. You missed.
Pistols = both eyes open
Shotgun = both eyes open
AR and AK = both eyes open
Scoped rifles = left eye closed
I try to keep both eyes open. I was told it is better when situational comes into play. If you close one eye, you lose the peripheral vision on that side.
I use use both eyes for pistols and shotgun
One eye for my hunting rifles which have scopes on them.
Both eyes unless i have long range optics. Especially moving and shooting. I can see more and have better depth perception.
I'm cross dominant and have tried to shoot with both eyes open, it never works so I just shut one and and am able to hit the target that way.
Pistol: range dependent, further away I focus on one eye, close in both open for awareness
Shotgun: both eyes open then both eyes closed
Rifle: again range and optic dependent.
