I was introduced to the brand in an unlikely place, the first I had heard of Spyderco was in Thomas Harris' book "Hannibal". In the book, Dr. Lecter attends a gun show with the intent of purchasing knives. He acquires a Spyderco Civilian, a Harpy, and a third unnamed model, which by description was probably a Delica. In the film adaptation, he carries what appears to be a non-serrated Harpy, given the time period, likely a Merlin. The fact that he's a cannibal killer is not where I draw my Dillinger parallel. It's the fact that the Good Doctor insists on the finest, like our fellow. He will be hungry, very hungry, but he will bypass Burger King and stay hungry if there's a Dean and DeLuca within conceivable distance. Neither smoke, but were they to indulge in a cigarette, it would be a Dunhill, made by appointment of Her Majesty, not a sub-generic from the quicky mart. The Good Doctor indicates my next knife. I had a tax refund, and perused a cutlery shop after reading the book, years ago. I decided on one Spyderco. I was then told that all Spydercos were 25% off that week. I dropped the whole refund there. I need ideas for my next one. I welcome suggestions.
