When the bolt and carrier are forward, I have a hard time getting a magazine to lock in on my Bushmaster. I just noticed this, because I normally have the bolt back when I put a new mag in -

    Is this normal?

If not, what could be causing it?

    Thank you, Axxe55!

I need to try this with a partially filled magazine - it MIGHT be because the bolt depresses the top cartridge out of the way in normal use, and it is difficult to do this when the mag. is at capacity -

i usually just load my 30 round mags with 25 now, unless i'm doing a lot of shooting.

And now, I can quit blaming myself -
I was cleaning it with the sling attached, and pulled the upper off the island onto the kitchen floor.
My better half came in and asked me what that noise was -
With my foot over the cut in her linoleum, I said "Nothing - "

I was cleaning a rifle on the kitchen table one day. I lifted it up to look at something and smashed the hanging lamp over the table. Tina was upset at first. But she was much happier with her new one. :D

My AR is hard to seat a full mag with the bolt forward too.

some mags are more forgiving than others. ive found pmags to work fine with 30 and loading in that fashion.

    Easy fix

    1) Load the mag with the bolt locked back
    2) Put 28 rounds in the 30 round mag

I do option 1 all the time, never an issue. Locked nack bolt. Insert mag. Hit release button and it pops in the first round. Safety off. Pull trigger ...oh..aim first....LOL

I usually only put 20 rounds in my 30 round mag. 1. For the reasons presented above, and 2. Because most boxes only come with 20 rounds.;)
