Pardon my ignorance, but what is the main difference? Drawbacks/benifits of each?

Saiga is an AK that has been modified to meet the requirements of an imported sporting rifle. The pistol grip is removed and trigger is moved back.
Izmash produces Saigas. They also produced the original Kalashnikov.

In a way, it is like Apple vs PC. The Saiga is 100% from the same production line (the Kalashnikov Corporation, formerly known as Izhmash and Izhmech). The military style AK based semiautos are made by everyone else and his brother. Therefore the quality of a Saiga (or the Vepr, for that matter) is more consistent with fewer surprises.

Yup. Lots of people convert them back to the normal AK configuration. They were gone for a while, I even called WPA (wolf performance arms, one of the big importers) and they said the factory shut down. Century also imported them and during the Panic Buy century stopped importing them, as of now century has them back and it looks like they are back on the market.
