Huge turn around from the prior chief. Detroit was not known for accepting legal firearm carriers.
Surprised to have someone make coherent statements who would be expected to be part of the machine
A real breath of fresh air.
How long do you think it will take for the liberal Detroit politicians to get to him and make him retract his statement? I bet by Wednesday he's back in the news, at the very least, clarifying his statement that what he meant was not what was printed.
I don't know if he will retract his statements or not. Before he came to Detroit he served in upstate NY and Maine. He is also being honest with the people of Detroit. He has less officers every year to control a growing problem. There is so much abandoned property in Detroit entire blocks were razed to drive out the criminal element.
This is especially nice considering I live a few hours north and often travel into the dirty D for various things. You'd be a fool not to carry in Detroit.
No doubt that city needs a complete overhaul. Will be interesting to watch if he can keep a different view on the gun control issue in a major city.
A Rattle Snake changes his skin 3 times each year. He is till a poisonous snake. Read closely he is suggesting one thing while proposing more stringent gun and people control. He is in favor of enforcing more gun laws and regulating the ownership of semi-auto rifles and large cap Mags. He is proposing rules which would allow him to close gun shops in Detroit.
He knows very well only the well connected in Detroit can get CCW privileges. What is changing? He did not state that he was ready to issue new permits, come on down. The Rattler has just changed his skin. Be careful were you walk.
it's nice to see a police chief making positive and intelligent statements rather than the usual political statements most do. there is still some hope when we have law enforcement officials who stand up for law abiding gun owners.
small hope, but still some.
The newly elected mayor came from a WRITE IN CAMPAIGN. He has real world business experience and appears to be very conservative. Detroit has some tough problems requiring resolution. Maybe the city will be done with the liberal leadership nonsense for awhile.
The police in Detroit need all the help they can get!
How many times have Liberals said, I don't want to infringe on gun owners rights? Does names like Obama, Biden, Shummer, Bloomberg are all in favor of common sense gun laws. Biden recommends buying shotguns and Obama was pictured shooting one. How phony was that?
I do not see any such references in the article. There are the requisite quotes from the San Francisco anti gunners. People can change. I hope he is one of those.
Action speaks louder than words, chief.Start issuing permits to those law abiding citizens.
Actually that photo was chopped... don't know why, but he was NOT holding that gun in that photo.
Some people won't accept "yes" for an answer.
MI is a shall issue state. Conceal permits are handled by the county, and wayne county that detroit resides in has not been an issue, other than the back log slowed the process up for a bit. Non conceal license holders have to get a purchase permit, which is available from the local PD or a gun store. Haven't heard anything good or bad about the city of detroit.

I saw this on the news the other day and loved every second of it.
better judged by twelve than carried by six.
