"...off duty" were the key words, so the manager should treat them just like any other customer.

Oh hell, it's Illinois. Nothing surprises me about Illinois. I'm surprised they still let cops have guns there.
As for Denny's, it sounds as though it's that incompetent manager who is the problem. I suspect he may be manning the fry station soon.
The "concerned patron" might want to get over themselves. Cops carry firearms, get used to it.
    Bunch of bed-wetting morons.

yeah, cook or even dupage and lake county, we could expect this kind of bull, but I would never expect it that far south in rural Bellville, IL which isnt much different than rural kentucky or southern indiana with respect to attitudes towards firearms and their owners.

that poor manager is rightfully so gonna be crapping bricks the next time they get stuck up and he has to phone the police.

Chief bans his detectives from going to Denny's? Who gave him that power over his officers? Overstepping his authority a bit? Is that constitutional?

I personally think it was an impressive show of courage for the manager to toss out the cops. I don't agree with his or her decision, but that showed some kind of brass! Could you imagine the reaction of the surprised cops? That would have been a Kodak moment. You have to applaud courage where ever it raises it's head! :)

Sounds like a "goose and gander" story to me.

I'm sure openly armed civilians would have also been asked to leave so what's the problem?

I agree with boycotting Denny's overs there GFZ policies but I also find it quite amusing when anti gun asshats show no exceptions for Law Enforcement...

...ohh, but wait...Cops are SPECIAL... sorry I keep forgetting that part.

Maybe i see this differently due to geography; in MS, LEO's are technically always "on duty" and required to respond to emergency situations, potentially with their firearms. In MS, i expect a LEO to have a firearm at hand

Read the whole article!! The GM intervened BEFORE the detectives left the restaurant, apologized and corrected the mistake made by one person, NOT the Denny's chain. What a bunch of crybabies.

That is well and true. However, that does not, in any way, mean that Denny's should have to serve anyone that they don't choose to serve. It is their business to ruin if that is what they wish. We should be supporting them for making the stand that if it is good enough of the civilians, then it is good enough for the cops, and the cop's bosses that make the rules.

Typical Liberal Illinois Anti-Gun person. That is normal in the Socialist Republic of Illinois. If Chicago wasn't there life would be back to normal for most citizens. I can also bet who the manager voted for! I heard that Denny's High Corporate apologized to the Chief and Officers for an individual idiot managers action. And should have! I can tell from experience I have never had a problem at any Denny's or any other restaurant working as a robbery detective for the Metro PD for several years being in plain clothes they never said a word. They were always polite and happy we stopped by and especially late night! I do not know all the details in this situation but not wearing a sport coat or jacket we were required to have our badges on a belt clip or on a neck chain if we carried our weapon in open sight. If working undercover then it obviously was always concealed. But regardless once they showed this manager their ID he should have went back to work knowing they were OK and in essence his store was safer at that point than it was. Obviously, the manager did not have a gun due to his continuation of the order! "Being an anti-gun advocate! If they had not been OK it might have been the last confrontation he had the way things are these days.

I don't go to Dennys because they have the unmitigated gall to have a breakfast-serving resturant, in the Deep South, that doesn't have grits on the menu. They also have lousy coffee.

    To hell with them.

    Chain,

Never thought of that! No Grits! H-ll that is sacrilegious here in the South.
Maybe they do not even have Sweet Tea? That also would be a serious dastardly issue! ;)
