Sometimes I detect denigration of the USAF on this board. Especially when compared to the deserved respect you all show the various SFs. May I humbly suggest there is something to be respected about: Being able to confirm that Mr. Asset is probably telling the truth about going to see Mr. Target on Tuesday at 4PM . . because you have video of Mr. Asset getting out of his car (tag # LCNS-PL8) and going into Mr. Target’s house on Tuesday at 15:57:23PM. Taken by one of the 15 ton cameras you maintain 400 miles up in the air. You think it was him because he was wearing his navy pinstripe suit, the one he needs to have taken in. PS. It was overcast. Or; Next day delivery of the 10th Mountain Division. Or; The reckless vandalization of Kim Jong-il’s entire movie collection in each of his homes, via half a dozen 400 kiloton warheads from a silo in Nebraska in 30 minutes (the missile silo, not the corn silo). You can argue about whether this caliber or that caliber has adequate ‘one shot stopping power’ (Did I get that right?) but frankly, carpet bombing has them all beat. Hell, even now sometimes our guys on the ground know they can relax and get some sleep because they have a guardian angel watching over them . . from Nevada. That’s a pretty neat trick. Surgical is very nice, but you should respect a sledgehammer. I just thought I’d mention this.
ON THIS BOARD??? In case you have not noticed the AF gets denigrated EVERYWHERE except Air Force Bases. The Junior Service gets made fun of by the rest of the branches for being soft, clean, pampered and well rested. The Marines get assailed for being knuckle dragging Neanderthals. The Navy gets poked at for, well, bring sailors. The Army? They are dirty like Marines, but not as tough. They need fly boys to bail them out with tac air. And they could not get into the Navy because of their weak stomachs. All of this, of course, is tongue in cheek.
With all due respect, you should know damned well the Air force is going to take crap from the other branches. It’s gone on for years. I believe it’s all based on the view of the Air Force bring computer geeks, school boys and just all around geeks. Every branch of the military takes crap from the each other. As I tell my wife, my family has represented a real branch of the military dating back to WWI. But alas no USAF.
The USAF has saved my former Army *** on several occasions. When you laser paint a target, they made it disappear, ricky ticky. All branches have their mission purposes and are utilized accordingly. They all get my deepest respect. HOOAH!
Did you hear the one about the Soldier & Marine using the latrine at the same time? Upon finishing there "business", the Marine proceeded to wash his hands in a vigorous military manner. The Soldier checked his hair and uniform in the mirror and without washing his hands, turned to leave. The Marine shouted, "HEY SOLDIER, THE CORPS TEACHES US TO WASH OUR HANDS AFTER USING THE LATRINE!" The Soldier replies, "hey Marine, the Army teaches us not to piss on our fingers". Quite whining about the ribbing taken by the Air Force. All Vet's and Service Members know that branch rivalry is no different than sibling rivalry. We all earned the right to give each other hell, and none of us would hesitate to step into harms way for anyone in uniform regardless of their branch. TACK
In the time I've been on this board there has been good natured inter-departmental rivalry but it has always… ALWAYS… been in fun and with respect. Well as much respect as you can get from neanderthals and swabbies. When it comes to the bullets flying and a soldier, airman, marine or sailor is in harm’s way it never really matters who responds to the call to battle.. We are all there. As the Army says “Hoo-Ah!” As the Marins say “Hoo-Raa!” As the Air Froce say “Cool Dude!” As the Navy says “Huh!” Scubie
The USAF has always taken crap from the other services. Probably always will. I did 21 years in the USAF (A/C Weapons Troop). The fact is, the USAF is their own worst enemy in this regard. The biggest problem is identity. Ask a Marine what he is, they'll tell you "I'm A Marine." Army, similar or MOS. USAF? I'm a (insert obscure technical name here) specialist." It doesn't help that the general public always jumps to the conclusion that when USAF subject comes up, they alway assume Flight Suit Insert, 1 ea (pilot). Like all teasing, getting sensitive about it just makes it worse.
I have no issues at all with the USAF. My dad retired from the USAF a bird Colonel. The Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson AFB just took possession of several photographs of my fathers' that will end up on display.
Actually, I haven't detected much ribbing of any service on this board. We are all Brothers/Sisters in Arms and we all have/had a job to do. Although the Air Force and the Navy definitely eat better. CA357 USAF 1967-1971
Well it's probable because the Air Force recruits from colleges and beauty pagents.. The Marines from the pound and the Army BY the pound.. the Navy? San Francisco. Scubie
With the 1 exception being those Soldiers fortunate enough to serve a rotation on the Sinai with the MFO...HOLLY CRAP CHOW HALL! We had our choice of Steak, Lobster, or BOTH every day! TACK
Well, following Dad's footsteps, I did a hitch in the USAF. Got out, bummed around, went to re-enlist. They wanted to put me right back where I was..... I re-upped into the USN. Did not want to do another four years stationed 100 miles from home...... Being 'young&stupid' I wanted to travel. They say the Earth is 75 % water. The Navy lets you travel. I saw a LOT of water. All the services are good - just doing their jobs.
I served in the USAF for 6 years and mess with every other service out there. The thing is they are all my brothers and sisters. You serve you have my respect but that doesnt mean I wont knock you for being a green beret or a marine scout or an army sh!t house cleaner.
When i picked the army as my branch of service one of the things came to mind is that its best in case of all out war to be inconspicuous as possible. Airforce your part of a basethat pisses the enemy off. Your living on a big annoying target. Navy pretty much the same It came down to marines or army. Marines ride around in the ships the navy guys use to piss off the enemy with. So army it was. My hat goes off to anyone brave or dumb enough to man installations or vehicles designed to tell the enemy "please shoot at me with the biggest freekin bullet you got"
