Deer jerky

    I just got a buck last weekend and just butchered it tonight, this will be my first time doing any jerky so i have a couple questions. Do I have to cure the jerky in a salt solution before I have it sit in a marinade? Also how long does it take in a dehydrater?

    I will marinade in a salty brine for several hours, I mix steak sauce and BBQ sauce and apply before putting on the dehydrator. It may take 10-12 hrs to make.

    So if my marinade has sauces that have a lot of salts it's going to be fine with just marinating instead of curing and then marinating?

    Yes, it will be fine with a lot of salts, I have figured out the flavour I like and make my own marinade. I made jerky last night in the oven.
