What is the best ( in your opinion ) or some rifles that are the best to do deer hunting with?
If centerfire rifles are legal, I agree on 270 and 30:06. Also add 25:06, 308, 280, 7mm mag, 35 rem, many others. I hope to get one with my AR in 6.8 spc this season. My list is not nearly all inclusive.
Bolt, lever, pump, semi-auto, single shot, all will put venison in the freezer.
243 and 30:30 have taken lots of deer, just not my cup of tea. YMMV
Shotguns with slugs or 50 cal black powder.
Larger caliber handguns, 357 mag as a minimum, or rifles in these calibers when rifle calibers are not allowed (see Indiana hunting regs.).
I have taken deer with 12 ga buckshot, 308, 270, 280, 7mm mag, 50 cal bp.
I've used .44 mag, 30.06, .270, .300 win mag and .50 cal black powder. All listed in previous posts are good choices.
30-30 , .22 opps i didnt realy say that lol joke guys
Almost everyone I ask they say 270 and I think you just convinced me . It's probably what I'll get.
Depends on where you are. In the SE US, 100 yards is a fairly long shot. The Winchester 94 and the Marlin 336, both in 30-30, are the first and second most popular deer rifles in the US. Move West, longer ranges, bigger deer, the 30-06 family of cartridges- 30-06, .270, 26-06, .308. .243, etc.
Glad you guys brought that up i hunt in the woods 100 yards is long for me. Ive never killed a deer past that but there are times ive hunted in friends stands that a 270 or 300 mini mag would be wonderfull.
I took my doe at 375 yards with a 308 last season.
Nice the 308 always seems to be the go to for the old school
check out your LGS. come hunting season, they will know pretty much most are using and killing deer with in your area. they should also know what's legal to use in your area, as they should have the current game regulations book on hand. check out this also. some states have different regulations. some states you have to use above a .23 caliber centerfire, so that means centerfire 22's are not legal. Texas just recently made it legal to use suppressors for hunting. some states only allow shotguns with slugs or buckshot. so check out your states game regulations and then start planning what firearm you want to get. lots of people also like large caliber handguns for deer hunting as well.
Hunting deer with a 22 is not legal here. But i bet more have been taken with a 22 then any other.
22 rimfire or 22 centerfire? irregardless, if the round or caliber isn't legal, then it's called poaching. highly illegal and very unethical!
IMO, using something not legal to use for hunting is poaching, not hunting.
well u gata wonder the poachers gun is a .22 a throw away more then likely. Id realy like to see #s that reflected that. Of caurse we wont,If we were starving (my kids) id poach you damn right i would!
no doubt lots of deer are taken illegally with rimfire 22's. that's poaching and not hunting IMO.
now legally hunting, i would guess either the 30-30 or the 30-06!
