No such thing as to many of anything to do w/ any gun! My Sportered Mausers started life that way. The only one that started Military was a basket case M38 Swede. I Sportered it for my son. Still has the original barrel. The Metal is getting camo as soon as the weather cooperates.

I have a M98 rebarreled to .308 Win. w/ new bolt handle welded on, a Buhler safety, drilled and tapped for top mount scope, and Fajen walnut stock. It is quite accurate.

I have a custom 257 Roberts. The heart of the rifle is a 1953 commercial FN action that I bought that year. The barrel is a 24" medium sporter weight from Joe Pfieffer, a prominent custom barrel maker back in the fifties. It has a twist of 1-11" to favor 75 grain bullets. The original stockwork was done by Bishop, but I replaced that stock with a Boyd's laminated thumbhole a few years back. For a time, it was my favorite chuck rifle - until I bought a 220 Swift. It will still shoot MOA with handloads. The scope is a Leupold 3-9X.

Very sweet!! When we get out from under this Presidents policies, That is what I want to build. I always keep my eyes open for a good donor receiver.

    Thx jpattersonnh.

Think you'll enjoy building such a rifle - I really did! Took me several years. In the process I met a retired GS - He and I planned the build together. He let me help with the metal work. The objective was to put together a good basic African plains game rifle. So...We pick the 9,3x62 cartridge and that simple 4X scope with a duplex. I did the stock work, the bedding and together we specially refit that front sling swivel.

What we produced was a great 200 yd plains game rifle. But I'm find myself more and more picking it for most every hunt that doesn't involve a beanfield, a highline or a varmit.

PS: Don't wait too long and PM me if I can be any help.
