I know where there is an old Cherokee then Confederate lead/silver mine, filled in, on property of High School Friend's. May be covered in houses now. But that whole ridge from in New England into Georgia has lead/silver/zinc/copper heavy mineralizaion....but no one mines it. Lead and copper and zinc is everywhere and sometimes gold in the mix.
Some of you cowboys out here in Az where there s a lot more are lazy. Dig up some lead and make some bullets and call us. Great nephew found a bit of gold in the yard. Just ran one pan but found some flakes of gold. BIL had cut a trench in the property to bury yard waste tree limbs etc.

Us New Englanders have already mined all the lead and copper- between fighting the British and freeing the slaves- the rednecks of New England have fired a few bullets

There is a lot of lead and not as much copper available to mine. Lead???
Copper??? For decades I traveled the Central 1/3 of the US selling High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pressure piping. Highly chemical and abrasive resistant for mining operations, power plant fly ash, the entire Oil Patch. You name it. So, you are correct about many areas of the US as well.
Many lead mines and lead processing companies in Missouri were shut down due to Gov regulations. EPA requirements that made most operations too expensive. The ones left producing are few today.

Up North here in Iowa, we have lead also. But not mined nowadays. Many years back, it was mined here. Lead, zinc, and iron from the hills along the Mississippi. From the late 1600's until approx 1914 when every thing was shut down. Still nothing today. Same with other minerals.

We know Virginia, for example, has Uranium. Bunny Huggers will not stand for any mining. Why, it would be terrible to do that. This whole subject just goes on every where. So, we buy most of the minerals from abroad now. Sad for me to see.

PeeJay it's likely not true because if it was, bank on it, NBCCNNABC would duly report it, and blame guess who.

I'm not saying its to blame for the shortage. But is this a viable contribution to it??

I mean they would jump on any shortage of raw materials, make it breaking news, and blame Trump.

Well, I don't have a dog in this fight, but I do know a couple of things from personal experience-
    1. The US no longer has primary lead smelters. Lead here in the US is (rarely) from a recycler, or an overseas smelter.
    2. All of the lead mines are not in Missouri. Having stood at the working face of underground mines in Alaska and Idaho that produce silver, gold, lead and zinc. Gold and silver are pulled from the concentrators, and the lead and zinc concentrate go aboard ore freighters for processing overseas. Here's one in Alaska-
    [IMG]
    3. The amount of copper and lead used in ammo is a tiny part of the actual consumption of the metals.
    4. Metals are mined when the price exceeds the cost of extracting and processing it.
    5. Seem to recall some rather impressive copper mines in Morenci AZ, Bingham Canyon UT, and Ely Nevada. At least that's where the receipts on my expense reports said I was.

As much as anything, you have seen what happens when a million shooters suddenly exclaim "Aw CRAP!" and try to buy every box of everything on the shelf. Add to that 100,000 NEW shooters trying to stock up on ammo.....

December 2014. The Obama Administrations EPA made a deal the last Lead Smelter in America could not refuse. Doe Run, in Missouri was forced to shtu down or be driven out of business with fines and onerous regulation.
They targeted lead as evil poison and Soros/Obama aimed to eliminate lead for bullets eventually. All lead in the US is recycled shipped to China to be recycled or primary production imported from China, and now we face the consequences. China had a hand aided, in the Soros/Obama and Democrats elimination of lead production!
Lead and copper supply is a National Security Issue as are a number of metals and elements
I don't know if anyone else has trried to contact the President about this but I did. Nothing but crickets s a l l I got and noting in the media about this critical issue. Just about bullets use lead and copper. Lead is used in copper piping and sheet copper to make it maleable.
Lead and sulfur are used to make some/most steels more easily machined. Lead is used in rubber and plastics and many metal alloys, and in some glass.
Lead and copper are critical elements to America and other countries
You see this is why China through the green agenda and Democrats has set to destroy our manufacturing capability and our National Security! The Democrats and proponents of, the so called Environmentalism Global Warming is about our destruction.lead is everywhere in the soil and copper is abundant. The Environmentalists are organizations dedicated to the elimination of the US and Western Christian Civilization. and "Global Social and Economic Justice" The sharing of poverty globally under their whip! AS EU Brussels Socialialists declared "Americans should be forced to pay more for food, health care, fuel and taxes for Global Social and Economic Justice." Global Socialism, Global Tyranny. They were all too happy to help China destroy America.

Yep. Doe run, in fact, was as you stated above. They had no chance against Obama and they knew that. They were good customers to us in my industry. But, before them other mines and processing plants in that same area were forced out of business there. There used to be battery lead reprocessing plants near Doe Run. They were forced out as well. Had to go over seas with their businesses.

You have well explained what has happened.
