Ok Im confused about a delay on a rifle purchase in ma.
Last thursday tried to purchase the 22 rifle at dicks sporting goods .
But my background check has been put on delay.
What is confuseing me is that this past summer .
I purchased an ar15 lower and background check was done over internet.
That took all of 10min.

Can dicks refuse sale if backround check is not back in 3days.
Whitch is acording to fbi web site.
Also have ltc with no issues.

does anyone know if I can contact fbi to straighten out problem

You can contact the feds in writting and give them permission to keep a file on you. You have to go to the atf site and request the paperwork. That would likely stop you from getting delayed. Dick's has a history of denying sale to people that get delayed. Normally you can proceed with the transfer after 3 business days. Everyone is getting delayed right now and the system is in a giant traffic jam. Dick's will probably not get a call back from NICS. You may very well be denied sale and they do have the right to do so. Sorry you're having trouble. If it makes you feel better I'm a gunsmith, I work on the Leos guns and I still get delayed rather often.

You may have noticed the mob hanging out at gun shows and gun shops? The HUGE increase in sales has put the NICS system into overload- and I think they may be replacing the 2 C cell batteries that power the main computer.

A "Delay" does not mean that you are Denied- it just means "wait a minute". If you are constantly delayed, look at getting a UPIN (Unique Personnel Identification number) which cuts down on confusing you with similar named bad guys (I know a guy named Charles Manson- really)

If the Delay is not cleared after 3 days, the FFL CAN make the sale. However, I will tell you now that Dick's will not. Nor under Fed law do they HAVE to make the sale. It says the FFL may make the transaction- not that they must.

Ok got on phone last sunday with dicks talked to assit manager .
She said I will call them now and call you back .
Ten minnutes later she called with ok procceed with sale.
When I was checking out salesman had me change date applied for background check.
Assist manager said hey you cant change that date that was when we tried to get thru.
I think dicks couldnt get thru to fbi so they said it was delay .
Okall done with dicks .
next time I will go to a gun shop.

I get delayed every time I make a gun purchase but I have a very common name. I am also a Permanent Resident Alien not a Citizen yet and that always triggers a second look. Went to buy a shotgun today and got delayed again.

Its not a big deal to me but last time the delay was a whole 20 minutes. I suspect it will be a lot longer this time with all the crazy panic buying. Just have to be patient.

I understand if it goes longer than 3 days the store could still sell me the gun, hopefully it won't go that long.

Yes of course. There even a place on the form for your Resident Alien number. You do have to be a Legal Permanent Resident. Illegal aliens can only buy on the street.

FYI. I was delayed yesterday but Academy called me at 10am this morning and I now have my new shotgun at home.
