Just wanted to ask if anybody here has a CCW in California. And if the test is the same state wide?

I believe Cali is a may issue state so it depends on your local sheriff and from what I heard the one's up north are a little more lenient when issuing a CCW. Also, even if you have a CCW for X county that doesn't mean you can carry in LA county for example. Try this link http://www.californiaconcealedcarry.com/faq.html#f20

The test is if the Sheriff likes your "good cause statement". Goto Calguns.net and they have a list of county by county chances of getting a LTC from the CLEO. Some CLEOs will not give you one at all, some just want you to talk to one of their people first to make sure you are not some wacko. Cost varies by CLEO. Some want you to pass a local class on CCW laws, some CLEOs want more than that.

Thanks for clearing that up. One of my co-workers said he couldn't when he lived there. To the OP that's why it's important to read the law books though.

i live in sutter county and saying self defense is good enough but there are countys that want you to have been a victim of a crime or a business owner who can prove you carry large amounts of money but yes you still have to go through an interview process by the sheriffs dept befor you get approved.

Send CA357 a PM. He's in your neighborhood (figuratively) and has got his permit within the past year. (Needed to move out of Sacramento.) I'm sure he would be glad to provide you with insight.

Californication is a May Issue state and permit holders are NOT required to inform.

Your local Sheriff or Chief of Police issues the permit.

Thanks for the info I was recently up in lassen county and yes in northern CA they seem to be way more pro gun then my hometown of San diego I believe if I tried to get my permit here to CLEO's would probably laugh and think I'm crazy being a 21 year old but I'm dead serious I want to be able to protect myself and others. Do you guys know if you have to be a resident of the county you apply for your permit or could I take a trip to NorCal and get it signed off there? Once again thanks!

you have to live in the county to get the permit issued.if you move out of the county specific to your permit you have to forfeit the permit.
