I want a compact 1911. I was looking at the springfield 1911 in the 4" . I want something to use to carry. I like it because I like springfield firearms. Where I work we sell a lot of them. We sell more of them then we do of the glocks. We all like the feel of them and the way they shoot.

try out the SA Loaded Micro Compact 45. it's the one i just bought for a compact carry pistol. i like the 1911 platform and wanted something smaller than the full size Government model. i was somewhat concerned about recoil in a much smaller pistol, but after shooting it, no problems. even the wife enjoys shooting it. i have had many 1911's over the years, but this is the first compact 1911 i have ever owned. it probably won't be the last.

Another good option is the colt defender and colt new agent. Ive got a new agent and its an ideal extremely discrete way to carry a super small 1911 that still holds 7+1 and can use any full size magazine

I have a springfield champion gi, its the 4" 1911 and I love it. Its my everyday carry piece. I'm 6'2" and 180 lbs....tall and skinny and I conceal it without a problem.

That is the one I was wanting but I can't find one. I was wanting to order one but I can't get it at the price I was wanting it for. Does springfield still have it on the new order for 2012.

I carried a Colt New Agent and a Kimber Ultra. Both were great carry pistols. I've since gone to the Kahr PM45, which is similar in size. I also carried my Kimber Pro occasionally. Some things I learned:

    1) The grip length is very similar between the 3" and 4". If you are willing to add just a hair to the size and weight, the 4" Commander/Champion/Pro is a quality pistol to carry.

    2) If I had the money I would absolutely go with a bob-tailed commander. That pointy grip tip is tough to carry for me.

Read the user manual and make sure other buyers do the same.
The shorter barrel of the compacts require that the recoil spring be changed at less round count than the standard size. (another item your store could stock)

The Springers are great pistols. That pic of the Para really makes me want one of the LDA's. I carry a Para LTC (commander length) and have for a good while now. One of the best pistols I've had period..Let alone 1911's. I have a couple Springers though and really like them too.

This is what I carry 90% of the time. 1000 rds and no hiccups at all. Not that expensive as carry guns take a beating and if you ever have to use it they will take it away for awhile. Not a problem but I don't want a more expensive gun getting handled and abused (possibly) by some clown at the police dept.
