Saturday I competed in a "Combat Tactical Pistol" shoot at my local gun range. There was about 45 shooters at this particular competition today. Pretty good turn out considering the blistering heat. The gun range owner told me he had advertised far & wide- it showed.

Lots of people I didn't even know. Unlike the Turkey Shoots I normally go to, like the one last weekend the annual "Firecracker Shoot", where I usually know everyone. So I made some new friends. Come to find out that some of the shooters did travel a distance to be there today and others were from nearby cities & towns. The ones that hadn't never seen the Shoot Shack gun range really liked our little stuck out in the woods place.

This Combat Tactical Pistol competition wasn't any kind of IDPA, IPSC or USPSA pistol meet. Just a bunch of gun enthusiasts out in the backwoods having fun.

Today's match was an open match meaning any caliber 1911 pistol was allowed and graded across the board.
The tactical course consisted of 10 different stations. Where the shooter will have to draw & shoot their pistol at steel targets and then reholster before going to the next station. 3 shots at steel targets per station. Each station had a different shooting position. For instance, some stations the shooter shot from undercover, some stations you shot your pistol while running and had to hit 3 separate targets with 1 round per target. Some stations had a blind side which forced the shooter to shoot from his left side or if shooter chose to he could shoot left handed. Some stations had 1 steel target and some had 3 steel targets. Regardless you only shot 3 rounds per station; 10 stations, 3 rounds each for a total of 30 rounds. The shooter had to have 30 rounds of ammo in however many mags he needed to finish. The mags I use have 8 round capacity. So, I had four mags with me; 3 loaded to full capacity (8 rounds) and the last one loaded with 6 rounds. The competition was judged by time from start to finish and best overall groupings per station.

    Well, here's my results.... :)

Congrats and well done Under! :D It can get addictive!

I recommend anybody who has the interest, time and funds to engage themselves in these Combat Tactical Courses, handgun or rifle, for well rounded and realistic training for sport or SD.

They will help you improve immensely in your quickness, trigger control, pistol reaction and handling, moving and shooting from modified positions and quick sight to target alignment on multiple targets.
