Colt is still making variations of the 1911A1. Small, medium and large in variety of calibers.

Far as I know Colt never STOPPED making 1911 handguns... LOL

But yes, they are currently producing 1911 handguns and they even have joined the rest of the companies and now offer one with the Tacti-Cool frame mounted rail system, if you need that for something.....

LOL - That is the 'Curse of the 1911" there are just so many good ones to be had.... :D

You need to get out to a couple of shops and handle, perhaps rent and shoot if at all possible, a few of them and see what one you like. Internet shopping is fun, but until you hold them, shoot them, you aren't going to be able to make an educated purchase.....

Where you at NARC? Maybe somebody near by you would offer up their pistol for a range test. I know both Cane and I would in a heartbeat. :D

central occupied illinois, one of the most gun unfriendly states in the world IMO, there is one decent shop but his stock is pretty limited due to the recent frenzy. Ive decided against the ed browns they are super nice but 2800 is somewhat steep. I have handled several 1911's in the last year or so and they all pretty much feel the same, i dont really like the picitany rail or the ambi safities, if i feel the need for one later ill have it added. For now the kimbers seem like a good choice.

The only reason i asked if Colt stopped making guns was it seems like I have never see a new one in a gun shop, or have ever heard of anyone getting a new one.

HotSauce, don't you work with a large number of people who carry for work? Surely some kindly co-worker has a 1911 you could take to the range, assuming you can find ammo. If your area is as short as mine, you might need a detective to find it.

The county the city the state police all have policy against .45's how ridiclious is that? we can carry them if we qualify :D

well i made my decision even though i never really liked the rail or the ambi safety i held a kimber warrior and i fell in love with it today so i signed the paperwork. Ill pick it up on monday. The guys at the shop called it used but it may have fired 10 rounds. the best part is i got it for 900.00 :D There is a 4-6 month backorder on kimbers and just about everything else according to the guys at my local shop so i guess the rail and the ambi safety are ok.

My road rash feels better already lol

? It's probably like the "evil black" rifle thing; my xd45 is olive drab to throw them off. I've known some methheads (+ just about every other kind of "druggie"); if you have to shoot one, use the biggest round you can. They aren't the brightest bunch & might not notice at first if you use something small. Now, potheads, well, just let us finish the J & we'll usually come along real peacefully. :D

+1 on that ive heard some pretty hairy stories about 100lb meth heads fighting 5 large athletic deputies with tazers, meth makes good fighters CRAZY makes someone unbeatable!!!!!!!! well except with lead :D

ya pot only smokers never give you much trouble except for asking for chips in book in :D

i hope i dont seem like a giant tool for making an inpulse buy.

do you guys think 900 for a kimber warrior with 10-20 rnds through it is a bad deal? cause it seemed pretty good to me and it was in stock and anything else would be 6 months down the road.

    WTF??? Oh nevermind!

They are not on the shelves because every new gun is spoken for!

All you need to do is get on the waiting list somewhere.

    Go to the Colt site:

    God's Guns

Pick out the model you like and google.gif the model name and number.

I'll bet you find a Colt you will love tonight!

First off, congrats on the purchase! A Warrior was/is my first 1911, and it's a fantastic firearm; got mine for 1k (also slightly used, no visible wear except a little on the safety) so I'd say that yours at 900 was a great deal

Did you get a black one, or the tan/olive color?

Since you don't have pictures of yours, here's something to tide over 'til Monday =)

i got the black finish if they would have had a flat dark earth one for that price i most likely would have gone in that taticool sandbox ninja direction, but anyway nice piece you got here.
