colt parts

    i didnt wanna hijack a different thread.

    cane, you mentioned colts have very little mim parts. what would be the parts they do have that are mim??

    I'm bumping. I looked over my Ed Brown and could not find MIM, did I miss something?

    in a different thread cane mentioned something about colt and mim and i was wondering which parts. i figured a mim topic might totally hijack the thread it was in.

    That's why I came over here. Although I have not personally seen a MIM breakage, I replace it (like extended thumb safeties, etc...) when I want to tweak.

    I would like to know what parts are MIM also.

    I personally don't see the big issue about MIM parts. They aren't as good as billet or forged but if made properly they aren't bad.

    Forged Steel:

    Slide, Slide Stop, Frame, Barrel

    Machined Barstock:

    Barrel Bushing, Barrel Link, Extractor, Ejector, Firing Pin, Firing Pin Stop, Hammer, Recoil Plug, Plunger Tube, Grip Screw Bushings, Sights, Series 80 Plunger, All Pins

    Investment Casting:

    Thumb Safety, Grip Safety, Mainspring Housing (Series 70 Models)

    Stamped Steel:

    Sear Spring, Series 80 Actuation Levers, Trigger Bow (alloy or steel finger pad)

    MIM (Metal Injection Molded):

    Magazine Catch, Mag Catch Lock, Sear, Disconnector

    Molded Nylon:

    Mainspring Housing (Series 80 Models)

    thanks cane :)

    looks like i need a new sear and disconnector. dont really want them to be mim. the rest doesnt matter to me.

    With today's EDM produced parts, you will find several 1911 parts suppliers to provide you the NON-MIM items.
