I have finally decided to go with a Colt. Now I have to decide on the model. I am looking to spend anywhere from $800-$1300.
It sounds like you're a Single Action Army also called a Peacemaker if you want updated or modern would be maybe a Ruger?
Ah ok so you're not looking for a cowboy gun. If you search around you might be able to find a military issued colt in that range. Or are you looking for a new model?
Colts are good and Ive worked on a lot of them over the years, but haven't had much to do with a Colt Mod 70 in years. I would think Canebrake would probably have the most info for you.
Basically you can't go wrong with a colt. Cane is the resident pro he can give you your best options.
I just got an 80s series Gold Cup yesterday. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet (thank you work...) but the feel is superb
The only Colt 1911s that I'd be interested in are the Gold Cups, particularly an older Series 70 BLUED Gold Cup or a Delta Gold Cup.
The only Colt series that I wouldn't really recommend is the 1991. You can't go wrong with XSE, I have one, well almost: the "Rail Gun", basically an XSE with a National Match barrel in it. I also have a Series 70 in stainless steel and I really like it. As others said, you can't go wrong with a Colt.
