Rock Island has been getting slot of love for the money.

Sorry for your loss, I know what it is like to have something stolen from you......dont give up hope, it may turn up. I found a stolen motorcycle of mine almost 2 years after its theft.

Springfield GI isn't as easy to find as it was a few months ago. The mil spec is very nice though. The RIA I think is supposedly built on old Colt equipment using their original specs.

The Rock Island is cheap&OK for a first time 1911 owner but for a Colt 1911 owner to go to the Rock Island this is Not a Good thing...Before you buy the Rock Island Fire it first and feel the difference......

It looks about like a colt but wonder how they shoot.

another option, check out the MetroArms American Classic 1911's. they are made in the Philipines, but are pretty well made. i have the American Classic II in 45acp and it's very nice pistol.

    Yet another option...
I'm already planning my next 1911. I've also always been a fan of the old rat rod look of some of the old hot rods and bikes from the mid 20th century....
So....I've been wanting a full custom build on new parts, but considering my tastes, I think I may have decided to go with a rat rod 1911, made from mismatched finished used parts.
It may be more work in the end, getting used parts from different sources and making them fit and work, but I've been pricing used parts and it looks like a build of that type could be done for about $400-$500.

I went to the gunshow this weekend. I didn't end up finding a 1911 that I liked. Well ok that I could afford and liked. I ended up not buying any guns myself. The girl that went with me bought a beretta px4 storm sub compact. She liked it when we shot. My best friend was their he bought a keltec subcompact and 2 hipoint L9,s

We went shooting afterwards. She loved it. Also I like it. Its not a 1911 (my favorrite) but it shot great. My only cocern is the takedown retaining pin and the triger assembly are all plastic. Not sure I like that but ots still aa nice gun.
