I don't support the reasons behind the author switching from .45 ACP to 9mm. I base my opinion on experience with many gunshot victims over the years. In my experience a much higher percentage of people shot with a 9mm are still able to continue the fight upon arrival of rescue. While not all of the victims of .45 ACP rounds are unconscious, in shock, or dead, the great majority are unable to continue the fight.
Please keep this in mind, while I know that it happens on a regular basis, I have also never pulled a corpse out of a seat belt. There are so many variables involved with both injuries that there is no way to make blanket statements about what will happen if x, y, and z all occur. What I will say is that based on my experience, I have chosen the .45 ACP as my defensive round of choice. I don't care about myself, but if I ever have to protect my loved ones I want something I have faith in. I do own a 9mm, but it is only carried when nothing else I have will conceal with what I am wearing. When you're out and about, it's much better to have a 9mm on your person than a .45 at the house.
