Here is my Chilean Modelo 1912-61 (K98 action). It is chambered in 7.62x51 (Apparently this version is universally safe for .308). It is the short rifle with a 4-groove 1903 barrel fitted.

They are being sold up here in Canada for 325 dollars. The barrels are pretty much mint. The same company is also selling them in 7x57 mauser for the same price. :D

Thanks! I won't be shooting this old girl anytime soon. We are getting 80-100cms of snow today. Then after that clears away I am back to work. When I do I will post the results. I may pull the trigger on a 7x57 version soon as well. ;)

I think I seen them advertised in shotgun news for like $175 in .308.

My understanding is; these guns are not safe to shoot 308 but can shoot 762x51 safely. I'm not sure, check it out with the experts.

The 1895 conversions are questionable as they have a insert soldered into the chamber. This rifle actually has a turned down 1903 barrel re-threaded and fitted. The action is a k-98 type built by steyr in Austria. This type is considered safe for .308 Winchester. They are marketed as so here in Canada. :)

I have a Turk, Yugo, and a Spanish. I havent shot the Turk or the Yugo more than a ew test rounds but the Spanish is unbeliveably accurate, You got a nice example of a Mauser.

I just took it out and tried it. I was using 150gr Winchester power max bonded. I can hit those little 8 oz water bottles at 65 yards no problem once I figured the sights out. Once the wind gets down below 30 knots here I will try it on paper.
It was a great buy for 325 dollars. The bore is brand new.
