    I mean...really?

Handguns are "evil" and "dangerous" (according to yuppy liberals) but the answer to that is "charge them money" and somehow the "danger" goes away?

It's just glaring proof that these uppity cowards only care about money money money.

Damnit I hate living in this state

I guess they're just wanting to make handgun ownership unattractive by making it expensive. The idiot politicians are doing the same thing here, 95$ for every "permit to acquire", any gun. They are trying to lower the number of firearm permits, somehow they also think this is going to stop gun crime. In response, I try to apply for as many permits as I can :D

Typical snotty upper class crap. Price the common man out of the market so only the elite will have guns. Reaks of pre-French Revolution politics. We all remember how that ended up.

This is typical of anti-gun schemes to either price or regulate gun ownership out of exisitence. Their hope is either you will not want to spend the money or go through the hassel each time. This needs to be challenged as yet another back door way to infringe upon gun ownership in violation of the second amendment. They wont stop trying and we must not stop challenging them.

They're already doing it here, here's what I had to go through to get my Colt 45:
-FOID (received it 4-5 weeks later) $10
-Chicago Firearm Permit Course (REQUIRED) $111
-Chicago Firearm Permit (surprisingly received it in one week) $100
-Firearm Registration (also received it in one week) $15

    TOTAL = $236
not counting the hours driving all the way to the distant police station that processes the applications.

Now what's interesting is the police station is conveniently opened from 9 something to 3:30PM Monday thru Friday ONLY. You have a job? Well you're out of luck because you have to go all the way there in person to get fingerprinted and I don't know a lot of jobs that let you out in time to drive all the way down there. Here you got both a financial and availability "filter" of who gets to practice their 2nd amendment right.

Permit must be renewed every 3 years, should be gone by then :)

Ir's not going to make any difference in the long run. The law abiding citizens are going to follow the rules and the thugs are still going to have their illegal guns and commit the crimes.

Truly, I am wanting to get out of this state more and more. What I am most afraid of is the law is going to pass that will make it illegal for me to own my Ruger Mark II because it is a semi-auto. Like that Mark II is more deadly than my revolver that shoots .357 magnums simply because it's semi-auto?

I don't think this fall into the class war, "they" have been after our guns way before class warfare was in Vogue.

It is an infringement on 2a. It should be challenged by the NRA. Illinois is telling you that if you can't afford the tax then you don't have the right to protect yourself and your family. It's a blatant in your face to the poor and it's democrats who are doing this to them all the while smiling in their faces and telling them that the democratic party is the party of the poor and working poor.

**** Chicago. I'm sick of it. It's even illegal to own throwing knives and ninja weapons. This state blows. Do they just want the bangers to run it??? Might as well let them. They already do. They outnumber everyone in Chicago. Go on YouTube and look up gang bang city. That just shows you how many there are. But WE can't protect ourselves from them. There's no hope.

I have many friends in (and from) the land of Lincoln.... I feel for each and every one of you there who want to exercise your 2nd. We here in North Carolina have it a LOT better (and we welcome you anytime!!)... but while many here have expressed the desire to move, I say TAKE THE STATE BACK (I know, I know... easier said than done when you have multiple decades of the same entrenched political corruption & mindset)... but this is STILL the land of the free. Contact the nearest NRA chapter and see who they recommend for the next election... join a gun rights activist group (ANY group)... Organize protests, marches and petitions.... email & call current local & state reps... HOLD THEIR FEET TO THE FIRE and make them accountable for their votes on issues concerning gun rights and restrictions. I currently am badgering my fed house rep on voting "no" on HR822 (the federal CCW resoprocity bill) and will continue to do so... until he out of office.
But just as importantly, talk to those who are anti-gun (I know, I know... "the enemy"). A lot of times these persons have an anti-gun stance out of either ignorance (they have never even held a firearm) or believing what they see in the media and movies (in other words.. they are just plan scared). Working along side many Northern transplants has given me the opportunity to talk to them about firearms (when the subject does come up) and about hunting, carry & conceal and various other questions they have. I've even taken three of them to my shooting range. Since then one has gotten two pistol permits, one is seriously involved in skeet shooting, and the other one often comments on me not being a (as portrayed in the media) "crazy gun-nut"... but rather a responsible citizen who (in his words) "just happens to love guns". That's the real key (IMO) to keeping our freedoms (not just gun rights... but hunting rights too) intact. Show them the fun of the sport. Show them the basic safety rules and how to be responsible. Show them the whole family can be involved.... In other words, create more of "US" and make fewer of "THEM".

Most people around me here truly believe the police will always be there to protect them and that no one needs to own a gun to be safe. Truth is you don't need a gun until the day you need one, just like paying for an insurance. I have a gun also because I like shooting and there are a bunch of tree huggers, pot smoking liberals here and they wouldn't be able to handle a discussion on that. Now I'm just keeping a very low profile and not talking about guns too much publicly until I move out. Our firearm instructor told us the police has the ability to revoke your firearm permit and confiscate your gun (confiscate means you never get to see it again in Crook County) for minor house disturbance, complaints from others etc. Also, major cities will never get over socialism because when there are too many people, there is always a big government controlling everything and draining money from the people who work.

Wow man.... I feel so bad that Illinois had made you feel like a criminal..... But honestly, like in New York, Maryland, California, New Jersey, etc etc etc.... Who keeps electing these anti-gun morons back into office???? I know it's easy for me to sit here in Nawth Cackalackee and wonder why the sane don't organize and take back the asylum... but it's still YOUR rights at stake!!...
But I digress... I still maintain that reaching out and showing that most gun owners are average, law abiding, SANE people who love freedom and the constitution.

they are reelected by the lazy, unwilling to get a job welfare sucking leeches that the Democrats have created by giving everything to them for nothing. The leeches don't want their blood supply cut off, therefore the Democrats have created a undefeatable voting base, unless all these people all of a sudden develop a work ethic, doubtful.

It is clearly discrimination. They are discriminating against the poor (as in not wealthy) law-abiding gun owner.
