What is the best way to clean the years of dirt and grime off of checked grips? I thought I read that someone had used oven-cleaner, but don’t want to give that a try unless someone else has had luck with it.

I've not tried the Oven cleaner deal?? Not sure what chemicals Might strip the finish off or worse melt stuff? What has worked for me is simple! I just use an old toothbrush and gun solvet, cleans out all the nooks and cranys and then I wipe clean and apply a bt of furnature polish! It brings the woord colors back and provided some protection to the elements! Most of my 1911's and BHP have rubber grips on them, but if I sport wood, thats how I clean them! Simple methods always seem to work, fads and gadgets seem to fade?
