I know it is bad form to play up another firearms forum. I don't make it a habit of even referring to other forums.

    BUT...

There's a regional forum in my area that has some robust local classifieds (so no FFL required). There is a fellow selling three Mark Morris 1911's They are all selling for $5000 to $7000.:eek::eek:

What could possibly make a gun worth such prices? It is pretty and all, but not bling bling.

I don't view guns as collectibles for value. I look at them as useful tools to be shot.

No way in hell I am paying $5k for Colt pistol ..... I don't care if it shoot Nighthawks out of it :p

Is that for the bunch or each?
If all three are like that in a bunch, then $7000 may be okay, but $7000 each is a little too much.

One is $5000, another is $6500, and the cream is $7000.

The one I have pictured is definitely a gorgeous gun, but I have trouble justifying $1200 for a 1911, much less those #'s.

I went and checked out Mark Morris's site, seems all his guns are going for those prices. I don't know nearly enough of what it takes to build a custom 1911 but damn, $5k+?

I beat the snot out of my guns ... not sure I could do that to one of his pistols

And the seller mentions that it is a perfect gun for carrying? WHAT!!!???!!!???

I've carried $1000 guns before, but generally my carry guns are bumped into, sweated on, all fuzzed up, and generally treated less than every other gun safe gun I've got. I'd never even consider carrying a $7000 government. Maybe someday a $1500 commander, but...

7000$ wow. It is a gorgeous 1911 but not for 7000$ im with you chris i cant make out 1200$ for a colt or springfield much less 7000$ for a custom from a dealer/smith that i dont know about.

I think I will have to get into building $5-7000 custom firearms, and finding enough crazy people to buy them.

Wow! That's some serious pride in his product!! He must be watching too much American Guns at night. :D

I could see $7K for a documented, battle used, great condition, WWI issue .... but that? None for me thank you. More power to him if folks are buying though.

Okay, I feel I have to weigh in here. Being one of the only forum members who is both a 1911 snob and NOT a fan of Colt, obviously Cane can't be trusted.

I own a Nighthawk or two. And I have shot just about everything under the sun in the 1911 market that has a name (S&W Performance, Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Ed Brown and the most ridiculous being a Dave Lauck custom 6" that was over $4500 an a custom request build).

$5,000 for a SINGLE 1911 is more than I would spend. Personally. And I am known to spend more than needed on something I REALLY want for "End of Days".

When we get into $7,000 for a single firearm - we are talking about more than I have EVER spent on a custom rifle build, including optics and 100 rounds of turned, custom brass, reloads.

I don't know WHAT this guy is doing to the weapons in question, but just because it has a Colt name and this guy is behind it, in my opinion, DOES NOT make it worth $6G's or $7G's a damn piece.

If Nighthawk advertised a $5,000 model, it would have to come with more extras than I have ever seen to even make me CONSIDER a deposit and it had BETTER be limited to less than 100.

    Just sayin'

And Dog's a little girl because his 1911 came out of a K-Mart $0.25 candy machine, is molded plastic, and in a 1:128 scale.

So, I've heard. Is it true the same can be said for why you have underwear from the K-Mart "6 and under" section? :D
