I'm talking under approximately $230. I am looking at a high magnification scope to put on a 22-250. Don't have a ton of money to spend on a scope. What's good for high mag at this price point?

I just got a Centerpoint 4-16x40mm at Walmart for $70. I am the type of person that would rather buy a mid to high end item to begin with instead of wasting my money, but people I know really like them.

I haven't shot it yet, but the build quality actually seems pretty good. I figure if the scope blows, I'll return it and buy a nice Nikon or something. It is mounted on my AR.

My first impressions are that the optics are clear, plenty of magnification, and build is good. The reticule has Mil-dots and it is also red/green illuminated as well.

I would say since you are considering spending $200 i'd just go for something higher end off the bat, but if you want something that is supposedly pretty good and has mainly positive reviews you may want to give it a try. It can always be returned.

Well we can talk about cheap scopes like BSA or Sight Mark or Barska.

Or we can talk about low cost scopes. Scopes that give you a decent quality for the price you pay.

You say your limit is $230 and we are talking about a 22-250 Varmint rifle. Sir I am here to spend your money. I love the 22-250 and I love blasting them filthy liberal varmints as well.

So lets look at some quality varmint power scopes in the $230 range.

Bushnell Elite 3200 is a great scope for the money here is a 3-10x40mm.

Weaver 3.8-14x44mm Would also make you a great scope.

Holy crap that is an awesome post. Thanks for the info. I see a lot of good scopes on there for the money I am looking to spend. Specifically I like some of those muellers, and if the Vortex are that good, they would definately be something to look at. To be honest, I have never had a high end gun or glass. I have used Simmons or Scheels brand scopes on average rifles. My favorite gun is a 7mm Rem Mag 700 with that "crappy stock" that everybody is always talking about. Never had an ounce of trouble with the stock or scope. With that said, I would like to get the best scope I can for the money. Thanks for the input. And now I have a couple other good places to look for equipment at. hahaha

Vortex has a LIFE TIME warranty. Doesn't matter if you are owner 1 or owner 5,000,000 if it breaks you send it to them they will repair or replace. Can't beat that with a stick if you ask me.

You are quickly talking me into one of these. That is the way it was with a Simmons I have too. Just send it in and they fix it. The scheels one I have, you just take it in and they give you a new one if you need it. Sometimes warranty means a lot and in this case that would stand true.

Ya, but can he find his car keys? The New Bushnell Trophy scope seem nice. I put one on my sons 6.5x55. A simple 3-9x40mm. How long it will last, I don't know.

    Vortex 6-24x50 Crossfire Rifle Scope

    Does that work for ya?

Both Rusty and I have this scope and I'm happy. You'll need to ask him what his experience has been.

Its a ton of scope for the money.

Check the Nitrex TR1 6-20x50 AO at Natchez Shooters Supplies for around $200 plus shipping. You missed out on its $50 Rebate, but at its present price, still a good buy on a scope that retailed for around $400. Nitrex and Weaver very similiar, being owned by same company and scopes made in Japan, using same optics and internals. I own a couple of the Nitrex TR2s and a gent I shoot with at range has this TR1 model. We are both extremely pleased with optics in our Nitrex scopes. Another high magnification scope is the Weaver 40/44 6.5-20x44 AO that can be bought for $175 at Natchez. Made in Philippines and while not one of the aspherical lens scopes recommended earlier, still decent scope for its price. Have one of the aspherical model 40/44s, a 3.8-12, and its glass is very very good. By the way, the Nitrex is discontinued, but its life time warranty is backed/handled by Weaver.

This is a good higher power scope for the $$. It's basically a Weaver Grand Slam and I've heard that the lifetime warranty results in the Grand Slam being its replacement scope if need be. I have one on my AR-10 and in my opinion it measures up to many $400-500 competitors...for $200.

If you want something more in the 3-9 power range, the Pentax Pioneer (rebranded Burris Fullfield?) that Best Buy is offering for under $100 seems like a pretty great deal. I've been thinking about adding one myself.

I have a couple Mueller Eraticator 8x25x50 scopes on my AR15 and Savage 12. They have been very good scopes, and have decent glass, and good tracking.
