I was going to college in Florida when it happened. The students tried to get the college to name the new library Challenger Hall but the powers that be thought naming it for a donor was more important. :(

    I remember ..
I was in high school at the time and we all watched it because it would have been the first teacher in space. There was something about a bad o-ring on the fuel pod that caused this - correct me if I am wrong.

I watched in school like a lot of others. It was truly saddening to learn later that the astronauts most likely survived the explosion and only were killed upon impacting the water

    a terrible tragedy :(

At that time I was working for,
    North American Aviation.
Where we built many parts for the shuttle.
The shuttle was assembled at the Palmdale plant.
    Was a very sad day.

I was asleep when it happened (working the night shift), and my sister called and woke me up to tell me about it. I was stunned, to say the least. And yeah, the thought of the crew being alive and knowing they were falling with no way to prevent it, was haunting stuff. :(
