    5 June 2014

    For Immediate Release

Century is one of the country’s largest importers of highly-collectible, historical firearms. It is also one of the largest employers in Franklin County, providing its employees and numerous vendors with high-quality manufacturing jobs.

Century had been planning on a large importation of vintage WWII, M1 Garand Rifles from the South Korean government. All the normal approvals were in place to obtain the import permits for this sale from ATF. Century had invested considerable funds in seeking the approvals and financing for this transaction. It was expected that this nearly 30 million dollar transaction would have provided a reliable revenue stream to Century even during the general downturn in firearms demand in 2014. Additionally, the sales proceeds were going to be used by the South Korean government to purchase modern firearms for their defense forces.

Unfortunately and unexpectedly, The White House intervened at the last minute and blocked this importation. This importation was denied despite our explaining that the denial would harm the company and pointing out that there is no rational, gun-control
reason to block the importation of these historic, 70-year-old firearms.

As a consequence of this denial, there has been a reduction in work and Century has had to make the difficult decision to layoff 41 Vermont employees. Nevertheless, Century has modernized production in several key operations areas, developed new
products, and intensified our sales efforts in various markets. We fully expect that the industry-wide downturn in demand from government, law enforcement and consumer customers will rebound in the coming months. When that rebound happens, Century will be well poised to take advantage of these future growthopportunities and expand our workforce.

Century is grateful for the support it has received so far from Senator Leahy and Governor Shumlin. And Century is still hopeful that the White House will reconsider its decision on the Korea sale and allow this important transaction to proceed, which would have a direct, positive impact on Century’s employees, Vermonters, and America’s gun collecting community.

Obama is from Chicago and is using every dirty trick in the book to force gun control among other things. Any other president would have been impeached for 1 10th the stunts he has pulled. He does whatever he wants and the idiots in congress let him get away with it. His plan was to destroy this country and he is doing it.

All US rifles should be re-patriated to the US whenever and wherever the opportunity presents itself.

The M1 rifles and M1 carbines are US Government Property, were paid for by American tax payers, and should be returned to them ASAP. At a bare minimum, the rifles need to be purchased and returned to the US for safe keeping.

I have it on good authority that stocks in Texas armories have been dangerously depleted and so it is of utmost importance that those stocks be replenished.

The credit debacle is being resolved favorably by law recently.

He said he was going to use an executive order limit/stop the importation of milsurp firearms. I know the M1 was mentioned. A lot of milsurp rifles have dried up since Obama's executive order.

This is all about the administration's fear of an armed populace. It has nothing to do with keeping guns out of the wrong hands. Its aimed directly at law-abiding American gun-buyers. The President and his supporters do not want you to own a military firearm...even one from WWII.

Banks extending credit to any Company in the Firearms / Ammunition industry were put on a Terrorist watch list...And audited at twice the normal rate, and subject to no-notice audits....

Not completely true. Many Garands, Carbines, 1903's etc were sold foreign countrys and they are now their property to do with as they please.

Just an idle thought but are these rifles still chambered for .30 -06 or have they been reworked to NATO standard ? If so, that might be the hook the OA is using to ban their import. >MW

Feinstein is bringing on board another proposed Law in the Communist Left's continuing assault on Citizens it's called a pause in Violence, I think. Sorry I can't post links. Someone will. Any neighbor or anyone could complain they feel threatened by your possession of firearms. VA Dr told me to check out my Medicare options. Seems they are trying to go after Vets. This President has just about destroyed our Rights, Republic and our economy and Congress twiddles their fingers.
