Can you build a cannon?Does this fall into the same category as other firearms?
You can legally(federal law) build any size muzzle loading cannon.
As he said- you want a muzzle loader that uses loose powder and a cannon ball? Have at it.
You want to build a breech loader? Shoots cartridges? Larger than .50 inch bore diameter, you may be building a Destructive Device, which is regulated by the National Firearms Act much like machine guns.
But if you want to build a cannon that loads from the front end and fire bowling balls, go for it. Just stay away from airports- you do not want to come close to an airplane with a bowling ball.
Thanks that's what I thought but wasn't positive.Been wanting to build a golf ball cannon for awhile now.Yes I have knowledge in tool&die and welding.Need to do some more research yet.thankyou for the answers
most cannon builders frown on welding.
A cannon that shoots bowling balls could be a lot of fun.
Only gonna welding hardware to mount
