Can you generally replace a bolt easily?

I have an opportunity to buy a Arisaka type 1 rifle (the Italian arisaka) for a low price, but it's missing the bolt. Would I be able to just buy a bolt assembly and pop it in, or is there more fitting involved?

    Thanks!

Well I'm not too knowledgeable on this particular rifle, but if you could find a bolt that originally came from another type 1 rifle it should drop right in. Now about picking up any old bolt assembly and expecting to throw it on the rifle... probably not gonna happen. You'd have to find out what type of bolt it has (sorry couldn't find any details on it) and find one. If not then you'll probably have to have one made, which could be pretty spendy if it turns out to be a specialty part.

    1945,

What is a low price on this. It should be very low cheap! Due to all the variables you will face getting a new bolt. And may not be able to match one regarding Head Space and all. I guess I would ask what are they saying happened to the original Bolt for it? Not sure it would be a good investment at any price? You might be able to part it out? If you can not match a bolt.

It will need to be checked for headspace. It may or may not space properly. If its too much its going to be costly as the barrel will need to be removed, turned in a lathe a scootch of chamber face removed, re-installed and correctly headspaced. If its too short all it will need is a bit of reaming to space correctly.

Oh, I definitely meant another type 1 bolt!

The guy just wants $75 bucks. I was going to offer $50.

Thanks for the good head spacing info. Sounds like it could be worth the gamble...

Not to nitpick you, but I think you have a type I, not a type 1, That is, the letter I, not the numeral one. Going to be VERY scarce. When Numrich had them (and they are sold out) the bolt was $86.

Ahh, good catch! I looked at numrich to see the price, I didn't notice the "sold out" to the side of it! There goes the easy strategy...

    Plan B

My LGS has a sportsterized Type I for the same price numrich was charging for just the bolt.

    Try Sarcoinc, and Buymilsurp.

I'd get on the horn directly to these guys,

if they don't have one, they may know where

you can try to get one...
