I just got back from the Bass Pro store in Fort Meyers FL. I went with the intent to purchase a G36 for CCW.Well, they did`nt have one in the case.I looked at a G27,G39,and a G30.I like them all ! Of the 4 models, what would be the most desireable and why ? I already have a G17 and a G20.

:D Today's your lucky day!

Of all the models in Glock's lineup, the G-36 is the most problematic. If I had to make the choice you're considering, right now, I'd grab the G-30 (or the G-30SF) in a heartbeat! It's one of the most reliable and accurate of all the Glocks and, probably, carries a little easier than my G-21.

I do a lot of high speed pistol shooting; the 45 acp has a better recoil characteristic and is easier to work with than either the 40 S&W or the 45 GAP, too! ;)

 Damn! Now I'm jealous.

(That's the only other Glock I wish I owned.) :)

EDITED - You haven't asked; but, I'll tell you how to determine whether or not you need an, 'SF' model. With the Glock's trigger fully forward: Hold the pistol in your normal shooting grip with your trigger finger perfectly straight along the outside of the triggerguard.

If the distal joint (That's the first joint on your finger closest to the nail.) cleanly extends past the face of the trigger, then, you do NOT need a short frame.

If the distal joint is behind, or exactly even with, the trigger's face, then, you DO require an SF frame. Got it! ;)

I believe the decision should be based on what you plan on using this gun for. If it's for concealed carry, the 27 is much smaller than the 30. I have a 26, which is the same size as the 27, and a 30. If it were me, I'd definately pick the model 30. It's about as compact as a .45 should be, holds 10+1 of .45acp, and is small enough for most people to conceal in most climates. I've had the 30 for approx. 8 or 9 years and have had zero problems out of it while enjoying accuracy a small gun shouldn't have.

The Purpose !

I will not actually carry it much on my person.I build high-end art and furniture peices for the extremely rich and spoiled.I travel most of the eastern half of the country,Rodchester to Naples and all points in between.Occasionally,I will carry it but mainly,it will be next to me in my pick-up because I deliver what I build .I sort of like the road trips.I did have a really bad experience twice in dixie-land and it rekindled my interest in self protection.--thus,I am the proud father of three glocks witch I love dearly.--the finger digit and the G-30 are a match made in heaven,---or hell ,depends witch end you`re lookin at!!!!!!:D

Glock had some problems when they first came out with the 36. So with all the rumors floating around the "net" the 36 got a bad rap. I think if it is as problematic as everyone states Glock would discontinue this model. As far as concealed carry it's one of the best Glock produces, and the only true "Slim" Glock. A lot of people are under the impression the G-30 SF stands for "Slim Frame" and believe me it's not a slim frame. It's a "Short Frame" they (Glock) just shortened the reach from the back strap to the trigger. It's more comfortable for people with smaller hands, that may have had some trouble with the reach of the regular G-30. I myself can't tell much difference, but that's just me I am sure others will be able to feel the difference.
